Welcome to Marshside Riding Club
Marshside Riding Club was originally founded in 1982 by Eunice Bolton,
with a small group of parents of children in and around Marshside.
The initial aim of the Club was to provide tuition and events locally for
the children who didn’t have transport and were very novice. The Club
ran for 16 years until work and family pressures on the small Committee
caused it to be put on hold in 1998. It was restarted in 2002 by Pat
Muggleton who felt there was a huge gulf between the ‘serious’ affiliated
clubs and the ‘happy hackers, so, with a new, enthusiastic committee they
set out to offer horse riders of all ages and abilities the opportunity
to enjoy events and activities in a relaxed but supportive environment.
The Club has proved very popular and has grown each year to its present
mixed membership of over 100 adults and children. The main comments
over the years have been the friendly atmosphere and the wide range of events
offered for all ages and capabilities.
Our main event of the year is the Open Charity Show with classes for all.
The show jumping classes range from Bottom Hole to the Big Prize Open (with
a £50 1st prize!). There are serious showing and dressage classes,
novelty showing classes and of course gymkhana events.
Other events usually on the calendar include a Members show, hunter trials,
dressage day, one day event, team competition, Easter egg hunt, fun day,
beach rides, hacks, scavenger hunts, BBQ, barn dance and a coach trip to
the Olympia Christmas Horse Show in London. We also hold monthly lessons
with a BHSI instructor.
The Club now has 3 full sets of show jumps, a set of working hunter jumps,
PA system and gymkhana equipment.
Mrs Sandy McGahran also lets us use her field at Sturry where we have constructed
a cross country course and hold many of our events. Mrs McGahran was
one of the Club’s founder members and both her children, Kim and Mandy,
grew up with the Club.
We are always on the look out for new members, and welcome any enquries into the club. We hope that you find the information that you need on this site, however please feel free to contact any member of the commitee should you need some further help.
