~ March 2011
Welcome to 2011. I am pleased to welcome some new members on board as committee, who you will meet over the coming months.
Ronnie Mount has taken over as Secretary, and is beavering away at updating our website, Katie Machin Miles is drumming up sponsorship/awareness with a press/fundraising title, and Eunice Scott-Smith will be co-ordinating events. Steve continues with all our maintenance, and Karen Williams will be co-ordinating lessons at Clayhanger. Krissi Hall has also joined the committee, and will be teaching the stable management at Alkham.
All bookings, and subs (which is a gentle reminder if you don’t pay, this is the last newsletter you will receive!) still to go to Sue please. As always, trying to keep costs down, and keep entry fees low, so please, please, please let us have your email address when filling in membership details, as it saves on printing and postage.
We are introducing stable management sessions, which members can attend, even if they don’t have access to a pony. Bearing in mind the widespread logistics of our members now, for May and June, we are running these both at Marshside, and at Alkham Valley, (taking the cost of fuel into account!!!)
There will also be instruction on how to ride a cross country course, as well as correct attire, which will be divided into experienced and novice groups. Even if you are not confident enough to ride cross country yet, you can book onto the on foot instruction, prior to the ridden practice, tackling each jump one by one.
Flatwork lessons will be taught by Julia Kirby, and Sophie Nicolaou is teaching the jumping lessons. We have moved the members show forward to July this year to try and spread our shows out (and for the committee not to be on their knees by the end of September, having two main events in one month!)
Last year’s member’s show was very popular, and it was lovely to see it so well supported. We have some fabulous perpetual cups, with only members competing for them, so give them a go. If you are not sure how to turn out, or what to do in the showing classes, book into the showing clinic, to give you lots of tips and pointers.
As always, our best fundraisers are pony rides at school fetes. It is always the same old few who drag their ponies along, and help. If anyone can either lend ponies, or lead at any of the events, please do let Sue know. We never have enough ponies for Blean or Herne fete (6 ponies and still a queue) so all offers – even bigger horses that are quiet and patient – the better.
I am trying to get a polo lacrosse demo organised and we have a pencilled date in, but not confirmed details, but if you are interested, book in and we will advise you once confirmed. If anyone has any specific events/lessons they would like, and think would be popular, please let us know.
Have a great spring and summer.

They are a small run family business, who have been involved with horses
for
over 20 years. They understand the importance of memories and
special moments.
They can attend you're own private yard and video you or your family
and your
horse in action. This will be in the relaxed atmosphere of their own
home. Many people comment how they can not get the same results
at shows as they do at home due to tension.
Some of the training at home sometimes has the best results. It's
very rare
you jump your highest at shows, or try your tricky dressage moves on the
test.
Alternatively if you just love your horse or pony, they can come and video
your time together. This could include grooming, riding, schooling,
jumping
or whatever you desire. They edit the video footage, pick out the
best bits
and put it all together so the finished result is a short film and a nice
memory of you and horse.
